  6. Introduction

  9. This is just another bootpic-viewer, but with some important features:
  10.  
  11.    o READY 4 FUTURE
  12.      ShowAmiga96 only works on Amigas, which have installed the Picasso96-
  13.      graphicsboard software.
  14.  
  15.    o FAAAST
  16.      The bootpic is saved in the executeable in chunkypixel-format and there-
  17.      fore it can be written into gfx-board-memory in a very short time. (On my
  18.      25mHz A4000T with PicassoIV loading and showing is finished in less than
  19.      one second.)

  21.    o RESOURCESAVING
  22.      After loading the pic, ShowAmiga96 just needs 10k of Amiga-memory. The
  23.      picture-data only exists in gfxboard-memory and isn´t buffered. So waste
  24.      and fragmentation of Amiga-memory is minimized during boottime.

  52. Installation
  53. ------------

  55. The installation is done by an Installer-script. The three programs
  56.  
  57. ShowAmiga96 (to display the bootpic)
  58. ShowAmiga96_Close (to close the screen)
  59. ShowAmiga96_Prefs (to change the prefs)
  60.  
  61. will be copied into the selected directories.
  62.  
  63. After that, the Installer needs to know, which Picasso96-monitordriver you use
  64. and where it is placed. This is necessary because ShowAmiga96 displays the pic
  65. at a moment, when the drivers from DEVS:monitors aren´t loaded yet.
  66. Therefore ShowAmiga96 does it itself before the screen is opened.
  67.  
  68. The main-executeable is called at the beginning of the startup-sequence.
  69. Editing the startup-sequence will be done by the Installer automatically
  70. (a backup called "Startup-Sequence.SA96" will be created in "S:").
  71. As "Expert", you can edit the startup-sequence or user-startup yourself: after
  72. installation insert the following lines AFTER ENV: HAS BEEN ASSIGNED!!!

  77. At the end you can run the prefs-program. Even if you dont´t want to change
  78. the config, it´s recommended to check the success of the installation. Simply
  79. press the "Test"-Button...and if it works, the following reboot should be no
  80. problem.

  84. Prefs-program
  85. -------------

  87. The prefs-program is based on many Reqtools-requesters, which guide through
  88. the configuration and explain every action - in german :-(
  89. I hope this helps a bit, until the programs are localized...

  94. After a correct installation, ShowAmiga96_Prefs recognizes the mainprog by
  95. a tooltype-entry. Otherwise, a filerequester is opened, where you have to
  96. choose the ShowAmiga96 file.
  97.  
  98. Having loaded and checked the file, the prefs-program opens the mainmenu,
  99. which offers the following buttons.
  100.  
  101. Bild                      In a filerequester you can choose a new bootpic,
  102.                           which will be converted into chunkypixel-format
  103.                           and that will be saved into the mainprog. The old
  104.                           picture will be overwritten.
  105.                           These IFF-ILBM formats are allowed in this version:
  106.                           320 x 240 pixel , 256 colors
  107.                           640 x 480 pixel , 256 colors
  108.                           800 x 600 pixel , 256 colors
  109.  
  110. DisplayID                 ShowAmiga96 detects the best-fitting screenmode it-
  111.                           self. However if you want to select a special mode,
  112.                           simply choose one from the list.
  113.  
  114. MonitorDelay              In the appearing requester you can enter a value
  115.                           (in 1/50 seconds) which will be used as a delay time
  116.                           after the sa96-screen has been opened. I needed this
  117.                           function, because my monitor needs nearly one second
  118.                           to synchronize a new screenmode. After the time has
  119.                           been elapsed, the fade-in of the bootpic starts.
  120.  
  121. Einblendgeschwindigkeit   In this requester you can select a number from one
  122.                           to nine that represents the speed for the fade-in.
  123.                           One is the slowest one.
  124.  
  125. SA96-Close                With these functions you can change the behaviour of
  126.                           the closer (ShowAmiga96_Close).
  127.  
  128.    WaitWindow             After the closer has been launched from wbstartup-
  129.                           drawer, the program can wait for the appearence of
  130.                           a special window. This can be e.g. a Toolmanager-
  131.                           dock which needs some time to draw its images. If
  132.                           you want your WB to look complete when shown, this
  133.                           function is the right one for you.
  134.                           ShowAmiga96_Close only recognizes the windows by
  135.                           comparing their screen-coordinates, which you can
  136.                           enter in two requesters (first x, second y). If you
  137.                           use Toolmanager, you can get the values from the
  138.                           Toolmanger-prefs. Otherwise there are still tools
  139.                           like ARTM, RSys, Scout,...
  140.                           If a window can´t be found at the specified location
  141.                           (check it with "Test"), the closer waits 15 seconds
  142.                           and continues.

  144.    Fade Effects           The ShowAmiga96-screen can be closed by using one of
  145.                           the following fade effects:
  146.                           
  147.                           Close:       the bootpic will be closed and the
  148.                                        Workbench will appear (simple!)
  149.                           Fade out:    the bootpic will be faded out before
  150.                                        the Workbench appears
  151.                           FadeWBblack: the bootpic will be faded out to black
  152.                                        and the WB will be faded in
  153.                           FadeWBwhite: like FadeWBblack, but with white as
  154.                                        fadeto-color
  155.  
  156.                                        (the FadeWBxxx-functions create a copy
  157.                                        of the WB-screen to save the Pensharing
  158.                                        from being disturbed)
  159.                                        (the FadeWBxxx-functions don´t work on
  160.                                        hi/truecolor screens)
  161.  
  162. Test                      Simulates a Shell-call of the ShowAmiga96-mainprog.
  163.                           All changes will be saved automatically.
  164.                           Pressing the left mousebutton calls the closer with
  165.                           all its adjustments.
  166.  
  167. Beenden                   Quits the prefs-program and saves the configuration
  168.                           into the ShowAmiga96 mainprogram.

  172. Error Elimination
  173. -----------------

  175. The errorrequesters of ShowAmiga96 aren´t shown until the WB has been
  176. loaded and therefore don´t disturb the boot-process.

  179. "Can't open Picasso96API.library v. 0"
  180.  
  181.  ! Apparently there is no Picasso96-software installed on your system.

  184. "Picasso96 hat keinen passenden Bildschirmmodus
  185.  in der Liste der verfügbaren Modi gefunden."

  187.  !  Picasso96 was unable to find a fitting screenmode. Try to select one
  188.     (ShowAmiga96_Prefs - DisplayID). If this fails, you have to define
  189.     a new mode with PicassoMode.

  192. "Datenübergabe an Fader und Closer fehlgeschlagen."
  193.  
  194.  !  ShowAmiga96 creates a file called "ShowAmiga96.dat" in RAM: to transmit
  195.     some data to the closer. If the file could not be written, this message
  196.     appears.

  199. "Picasso96-Monitortreiber wurde nicht gefunden: xxx"

  201.  !  The monitordriver you selected during the installation could not be found.
  202.     Maybe you installed a new one or moved it to a new place. To update the
  203.     mainprog without new installation, perform the following prefs-call from
  204.     a shell.

  213.  !  This error appears, if ShowAmiga96 has been installed by hand or if the
  214.     Installer-script has been interrupted. The program will not without
  215.     Installer-installation!!!
